David lives in the basement of his Spokane Valley, Washington home with his wife Sherrie and cat Geordi. His daughter and two grandchildren are his upstairs neighbors. David was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and moved his family to Spokane in 1978. He also has two sons, one married, and a third grandchild.
In 2001 he joined the Idaho Writer's League and has served as newsletter editor and chapter president in the Coeur d'Alene chapter and as League treasurer, 1st vice president, president, and webmaster. He is currently serving as the League treasurer and League webmaster. Other writing groups David has belonged to are The League of Utah Writers, Spokane Authors and Self Publishers, and the Washpan (Washington/Idaho) chapter of the SCBWI.
He writes humerous memoirs, juvenile stories, science fiction, and newsletter articles and has received awards for his writings. His juvenile story "Deep Dark Secrets" was published in the 2003 anthology "Kaleidoscope: A Collection of Tantalizing Tales."
Flunking an 11th grade English class caused a need to attend a Creative Writing night class during his Senior year in high school. Being a slow learner, it took two decades before the interest in writing took hold.
Another ten years passed and David joined the IWL and worked on improving his writing skills.
Although writing was not a life-long passion, reading came early, while still in pre-school, and remains an important part of his life. L. Frank Baum and Victor Applegate were favorite authors as a child. Later, Ian Fleming and A. E. Van Vogt entertained him with their writings. His favorite authors today include Clive Cussler, Vince Flynn, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. Among the hundreds of books in his personal library are nearly 80 autographed books from over 80 authors he has met including Historical Fiction author Jane Kirkpatrick, Western author Kirby Jonas, Science Fiction authors Ken Rand and John Dalmas, Christian Mystery author Brandilyn Collins, Historical author Erik Larson, and Mystery authors Marcia Preston and Mary Higgins Clark.
He is working on a collection of humerous life stories dealing with his childhood, growing up years, and life as a parent and now a grandparent. David devotes his free time to running "Grandpa Day Care" for his grandson, Tynon and his granddaughter, Tayla.
In addition to writing, David's interests include family history, drawing, puzzle solving, and working with computers.
David serves on the board of Bitterroot Mountain, LLC, an Independant Publishing company in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
